Our Koala Conservation Ambassador – Jason Momoa
Jason Momoa loves our Australian Macadamia and Salted Caramel ice cream – and our conservation efforts – so much that we flew him to the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital in Queensland, Australia to learn more about the challenges facing koalas, and the work Nuii is doing to support them.
Koalas are facing extinction across the east coast of Australia due to disease, habitat destruction, vehicle strikes, dog attacks, bushfires, flash floods and more. Koalas could become extinct in large areas of Eastern Australia as early as 2025 without intervention.

How we can help
Currumbin Wildlife Hospital is one of the busiest wildlife hospitals in the world, admitting over 16,000 wildlife patients each year, including endangered koalas. At Currumbin Wildlife Hospital, 60% of Koala admissions are due to chlamydia, a bacterial infection and one of the largest threats posed to the Koala’s survival.
Saving endangered Koalas is a priority for Currumbin Wildlife Hospital and the vet team are part of a world first Koala Chlamydia Vaccine Research Program. Four hundred and fifty Koalas have now been vaccinated against chlamydia, with 38 joeys and six “grand-joeys” born among the vaccinated population.
Nuii has donated well over $300,000 to koala conservation since the 2020 Australian Bushfires. In 2024 we sponsored two essential diagnostic pieces of equipment at Currumbin Wildlife Hospital, the PCR and Plate Centrifuge that will be used extensively on all Koalas that go through the Intensive Care Unit.

Im Jahr 2025 setzen wir unser Engagement für kranke und verletzte Koalas fort und unterstützen das Krankenhaus mit:
• A Koala Multiparameter unit (for monitoring intensive care Koalas)• A second Koala exercise yard for long term rehabilitation of Koalas• Three infusion pumps (for intravenous fluids and blood transfusions during koala operations)• An extra oxygen outlet in the hospital for oxygen therapy (for critical patients)• A camera for remote monitoring of Koala patients at the Pottsville facilityThis will allow Currumbin Wildlife Hospital to continue its mission to treat, rehabilitate and release precious Australian wildlife patients back into the wild.Watch the film below to see Jason Momoa’s visit to the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital and his firsthand experience with their vital conservation work.
